520 _aConsiders the increasing importance to developers of good access to light both in terms of planning and design and private legal rights to light. Examines the main guidance to rights of light: PPG3, the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 s237 and key judgments such as "Midtown Ltd v City of London Real Property Co Ltd" ([2005] EWHC 33 (Ch), [2005] , Abs68690). Concludes that new buildings on urban sites must be designed to allow in sufficient daylight and to respect existing neighbouring uses. Neighbouring landowners have rights to prevent infringements to their rights of light but local authorities have the power to convert rights into compensation to allow development to proceed.
