The definition of an electronic document includes readily accessible documents from PC's, portable data storage media, databases, servers, mobile phones, laptops and hand-held devices, together with metadata. Deleted documents can be included if recoverable. The search for documents must be proportionate to the nature and complexity of the proceedings. Comments on the implications for the generation, retention and management of electronic documentation.
