520 _aThe Alternative Investment Market is the fastest-growing investment market in the world. Even in the last 18 months, private investors have generated almost £2bn investment in AIM-listed property companies. Nevertheless, whilst they enjoy great success, there are fears that small investors may be ignoring the risk. Questions are being asked about how safe foreign property is through AIM with regard to future equities. Whilst recently a newspaper reported that around 50 companies face having their shares suspended because they are cash shells that fail to meet investor's expectations. The experienced investor knows that AIM is the riskier route to pioneering investment. However, a stock market watchdog has been called upon to ensure weakly managed organisations do not exploit other more naive investors.
