520 _aThe Casino Advisory Panel is due to shortlist prospective locations for the UK's first supercasino at the end of May. Local authorities are competing for a prize that could provide the opportunity to regenerate underused sites and create hundreds of jobs; London and Blackpool are the current favourites. But there is doubt over how many supercasinos will be built and growing concern that many local authorities have already struck preferred bidder arrangements with casino operators. The panel have denied these accusations, insisting that the wining locations will be chosen on the basis of the greatest social impact and regeneration benefits. The proposals of the local authorities shortlisted for the supercasino will be put out for public examination in August and September 2006.
