_bEnvironmental Information Regulation Cases, 28 March 2006. M complained about difficulties in obtaining documents from Kings Lynn and West Norfolk BC and its schedule of charges. Copies of most documents cost 50p a sheet with copies of planning decision notices costing £6.50. M took his case to the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) which acts as the watchdog for questions of access to information. The ICO ruled that K was entitled to charge whatever amount it considered reasonable. Friends of the Earth took the case on behalf of M to the Information Tribunal. "Held": ICO decision overturned. Local authorities are free to exceed the guide price of 10p per sheet but only if they can demonstrate that there is good reason to do so. K has changed its schedule of charges accordingly.
