520 _aThe DCLG has joined with the Fire Service Inspectorate and the Federation of Small Businesses to raise awareness of the new fire safety regulations which come into force on 1 October 2006. From that date, the responsibility for fire safety in all buildings and structures except private homes and flats will lay with employers, the self-employed, voluntary organisations, those responsible for buildings with public access, and any contractor who exercises a degree of control over premises. Those responsible for fire safety are being urged to carry out a fire risk assessment before the above date.
