520 _aProvides a review of the brownfield policy and the emerging sustainable development agenda in the UK. Examines the development industry's role and attitudes towards brownfield regeneration and contaminated land. The survey is based on a sample which represents nearly 30 per cent of UK volume housebuilding carried out in 2004. The results suggest that housebuilding is no longer the preserve of specialists, and is now widespread throughout industry in the UK and that the redevelopment of contaminated sites for residential use could be threatened by the impact of the EU landfill directive (Directive 99/31/EC).
