520 _aExamines the scale and nature of labour immigration to the UK. Looks at the numbers and types of foreign workers coming through the main official routes and schemes, and provides figures for work permits and first permissions granted by industry for construction and land services (1995, 2000 and 2005) and flows of employed migrants from the skilled construction and building trade (2000-2004). Concludes that the numbers of foreign workers has been increasing and foreign workers have tended to be more skilled than domestic workers. However, this may change with the inflow from new EU states in Eastern Europe.
