520 _aKier topped the new work winners monthly league table for December 2006, with Bovis Lend Lease in second place and Laing O'Rourke in third. Balfour Beatty was the overall winner for 2006. All sectors apart from industrial saw a slump in December 2006 compared to November 2006, reflecting the festive period. Compared to 2005, 2006 was a quieter year for construction with new business falling back to £26.8bn from £29bn, although this was partly due to the infrastructure total returning to normal levels. Housing was up to £3.47bn of forward orders from £2.8bn in 2005 and public sector work rose by £3.7bn to £9.75bn. Both commercial work and industrial business fell in 2006.
