520 _aReports that standard missives are gaining in popularity. They were originally introduced in 1992 and widely seen as a failure. There is now a standard form in wide use in Dundee, and can also be seen in the Highland Standard contract offered by Thorntons. This is seen as superior to the more neutral 1992 style. It allows individual companies to vary clauses to suit their client base. Scottish companies are more keen to adopt these forms because of the requirement not to market properties while contracts are exchanged. Sellers are often tempted to adopt a simpler common scheme in order to avoid complexities.
