520 _aConsiders the principal changes to disability legislation introduced by the Disability Discrimination Act 2005. Public sector bodies now have a duty to promote disability equality. This may include some private companies when contracted to perform public functions. Landlords and managers may now be required to provide auxiliary aids or services to enable a disabled person to rent those circumstances. Disabled tenants can more easily obtain permission to alter their houses, if their landlord unreasonably withholds consent. The framework also applies to clubs and transport services. The definition of a disability has been extended to include cancer, MS and HIV.
