520 _aDiscusses the effects of the new BS EN 62305 standard for lightning protection on the construction industry. From August 2008, all clients and contractors will require evidence of BS EN 62305 accreditation from lightening protection contractors working on their site. Compared with its predecessor, BS 6651, the new standard requires a much more rigorous risk assessment, and this will cost clients more. Also notes that BS EN 62305 is lengthy and overcomplicated, will mean contractors have to provide more information, and will require a closer relationship with the client and building services consulting engineers from the first design stages of the project.
