520 _aThis section 237 of the 1990 Act allows easements and other rights to be overridden to enable building or other works to be erected, constructed, carried out or maintained on that land where it is held for planning purposes. This means that the easements etc can only be overridden during the construction phase and not permanently for the new use of the site. This situation may be a threat to the ongoing effectiveness of regeneration projects. In this consultation document, the UK government proposes to allow easements etc to be overridden once the new use is in place.
