520 _aReports that contractors' input costs have risen by 6.1% since March 2007, with materials costs making up most of this rise. Labour costs are increasing slowly, although booming Eastern European economies could mean less migrants working in the UK. The overall forecast for construction price inflation is uncertain; the UK market is not faring too badly, with few delayed or cancelled projects and order books relatively full for major contractors. However, the private housing and commercial sectors are struggling and there may be more pressure on small and medium sized contractors.
