520			_aThe EPBD is the main legal instrument in Europe for improving energy performance in buildings. It provides for a comprehensive and integrated approach towards improving the efficient use of energy in both new and existing buildings, residential as well as commercial. The EPBD's provisions cover energy needs for thermal insulation, space and hot water heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting. Most of the existing provisions apply to all buildings, regardless of their size and whether in residential or nonresidential use. This is a document that is regularly updated by eceee to reflect the status of the approval process of the recast of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).
