The Standard requires landlords of commercial and residential properties to carry out energy efficiency improvements works before they can grant a new lease if the properties do not have a Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) Rating of E or above. In April 2020 MEES is being extended to existing lettings of residenital property and in April 2023 to existing lettings of commercial property.
