Annual average house prices paid by first time buyers in February were 2.8% higher than a year ago. Average house prices paid by former owner occupiers fell by 1.6%. Annual average house prices paid for new properties in March 2012 were 6.9% higher than a year ago. By comparison average house prices paid on pre-owned dwellings were 0.9% lower. The ONS House Price Index was previously published by Department for Communities and Local Government as the CLG House Price Index.
