It shows that in the second quarter, April to June 2004, the price of farmland is continuing to rise as demand outstrips supply. Prices rose by 16% on the same period last year and averaged £8630 per hectare. The rise is fuelled by a decline in the amount of land coming onto the market. Non-farmers continue to play an active role in the farmland market and account for 43% of purchases over the last quarter.
