The site value was agreed at £750 and the full compulsory purchase value at £26,000 giving an owner-occupation supplement of £25,250. The later was only payable if the house had been wholly or partly occupied as a private dwelling during the two years previous to the area being declared a clearance area. About 75% of their furniture was moved in November 1982 and the family moved in in early 1983 after which they went to India for six months. He was given a void rate allowance for the property from December 1982 to December 1983. He paid water and electricity charges but did not register on the electoral register until 1984.
