Examines how government money invested in UK schools can be spent efficiently and effectively. Looks at education from the point of view of policy and design, giving cost breakdowns of two typical school building types. Policy areas identified include changing methods of learning to focus on pupils as individuals, greater use of information and communications technology, increasing levels of social inclusion in schools, including integration of special needs pupils and increasing community use of school's facilities. Shows how cost effective school design can achieve these aims. Tables.
