Retail warehousing again produced the best returns (17.4%) of any property investment sector in 2002, as it has done in six of the previous 10 years (1993-1997) according to the "IPD UK annual index 2002". Retail returns rose to 14.1% from 5.5% in 2001, industrial returns to 10.8% but office total returns more than halved from 7.6% to 3.3%. Overall, property performed well in 2002 and the index confirms that property has been the best-performing UK asset in the past three, five and 10 years.
