Scottish minerals extraction guidance to be reviewed

"National planning policy guideline 4" (NPPG4) on the extraction of minerals in Scotland is to be reviewed. NPPG4 covers primary and secondary aggregates, marine dredged minerals, coastal superquarries, non-aggregate construction minerals, deep mined coal, peat, oil, gas and specialised or metalliferous minerals. Although a 2002 review of NPPG4 showed existing policies were generally working well, the policies are nearly ten years old and need to be re-examined.
