Summary, etc. "National planning policy guideline 4" (NPPG4) on the extraction of minerals in Scotland is to be reviewed. NPPG4 covers primary and secondary aggregates, marine dredged minerals, coastal superquarries, non-aggregate construction minerals, deep mined coal, peat, oil, gas and specialised or metalliferous minerals. Although a 2002 review of NPPG4 showed existing policies were generally working well, the policies are nearly ten years old and need to be re-examined.
