First of two articles addressing best practice for dealing with residential tenancy inventories. Following the introduction of Tenancy Deposit Protection, these have become a subject of debate. Events are showing that disputes can easily require Alternative Dispute Resolution. Landlords should provide an inventory along with a tenancy agreement or risk lacking proof should dispute arise. Good inventories will contain factual and descriptive terms. Photographs and digital recordings can be helpful, but are no substitute for this. Considers the relative merits of accompanied and unaccompanied move-ins.
