On the basis of the report's findings government has ruled out an extensive deregulation of environmental controls on farming. However, there is the prospect of the introduction of an environmental standard for farms. Describes the findings of a report, commissioned from the Institute for European Environmental Policy, for English Nature. This concluded that serious gaps in basic standards for agriculture are leading to serious environmental damage. Describes the six-point plan, detailed in the report, for raising standards on farms.
