Summary, etc. In the first phase implementation of the landfill directive around 220 of the 1 300 landfill sites across England and Wales have been nominated to become sites specialising in hazardous waste. To comply with the landfill directive and the requirements of the Integrated pollution prevention and control directive operators will have to obtain new operating permits and for sites receiving hazardous waste, this has to be completed by 16 July 2004.
