Reports the findings of the Commission's national inquiry into rural housing begun in July 2005 which formed an important part of the Commission's evidence to the government Affordable Rural Housing Commission. Based on the responses of over 800 people from eight case study areas in England, the report relays a common sense of overwhelming concern at the growing shortage of suitable affordable housing to buy or rent, anxiety about the impact of increasing numbers of second and holiday homes, frustration at the lack of local involvement in decision making and at inflexible planning and housing policies. Makes recommendations including more effective rural proofing of housing policies at all levels.
